I have been trying to locate the birth record of my aunt and her twin brother.
From her daughter I have been told that their birthdays were in June 1910. My aunt married in April 1930 and according to the certificate she was 19 years of age.
Is it possible that these births having not been registered could go unnoticed by the registrars at that time, and would she have had to produce a birth certificate at the time of marriage?
The twin brother died apparently when he was 3 years old, I can't find that record either?
Does anyone on this board have any idea what to do next?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

What area were they born in? If you would like us to have a look for you, you will have to add their names.
Have you checked the complete index?

I cannot see them either LadyC, perhaps they have not been sent or were lost on the way to the GRO. Strange that the death is not recorded either.
Is there any chance they were illigitimate and and registered in mothers name and mother later married Mr Foot?

Thanks Potty, I have already seen and discarded those two.

No Keith they were definitely not illegitmate, my grandmother had 14 children by my grandfather, the first born in 1900 and the last in 1922.

On the 1901 the above Jane is with mother and father
Mary and Henry and the William Alfred is not there (dead?)
Is possibly a big coincidence

Sorry, I had to go offline for a while.
Portland Rose, yes these are my relatives and there were 4 more between 1900 and 1907.
John, according to the rest of the certificates all siblings were registered either in Camberwell or Southwark

I'm inclined to think there's been an error and Jane as been typed up as James.

Births Sep 1910 (99%)

FOOT Henry E Camberwell 1d 811
FOOT James Camberwell 1d 811

Henry died the next quarter. Perhaps he survived 3 months instead of 3 years.

Thanks for your input Rose. This situation has been driving me into the brick wall.
I am in contact with Janes daughter, and she is mystified as well. She is not aware of any birth certificate.

To all of thos people on here that have tried to help me in this quest, GOOD NEWS.
After a lengthy conversation with my cousin, it came to light that my aunt was registered in error as a boy, and had to have an attachment to her birth certificate confirming that she was in fact female.
She eventually had 9 children so no doubts there.
I have sent off for certificates and should have the confirmation around 24th July.
This may be of help to those who have hit a brick wall.
Thanks again to everyone, will let you know what the results are.

Hi All
Just to let you know that I received the certificates yesterday and the twins Henry and James were my grandmothers children. However, James was in fact Jane, she had been registered in error as a boy. The birth date is correct according to her daughter.
Now I need further help and advice
Apparently Aunt Jane had to obtain 'a piece of paper' - from where? acknowledging the fact that she was female. She was told that she should keep the piece of paper attached to her birth certificate.
None of the family seem to have the birth certificate (with piece of paper attached).

Where do you think that I should apply for said piece of paper to keep with my copy of the birth certificate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
