I know that to access service records you need the permission of the Next of Kin, but what counts as next of kin AFTER so many years may have passed? |

I recently filled in a form for the Coldstream Guards and on there you only had the permission thingie if it was 1921 or after...anything before that ...say 1871 in my case... I just had to fill in the solders details |

Thank you. I can understand the need to have a safety net to ensure privacy and to make sure that no one living is going to be upset etc but when the direct NOKs have died, it's a shame that this information can't be released. |

If the next of kin are all dead maybe you could be eligible. You may have to send copies of their death certs and explain the relationship. It is worth a try perhaps? |
