Thanks Devon dweller and BPC. I have looked at the cwgc and there are a couple of frederick william powells but next of kin are not given so i cant tie it up. Maybe i will just have to wait for 1911 census and see if i can pin point where he was then. The joys of researching a common surname !
thanks for your help
best wishes
Chris (nee powell!)

Thanks for that Alistair i will print the page off to study but my initial thought is that frederick was too old. The age limit was increased as the war went on but would he have voluntered? at 45/46 years old
Thanks for the web site its very interesting
best wishes

Hi, I am trying to find out about my grandads eldest brother Frederick william powell born in madeley shropshire in 1871. He is with his parents in 1891 and possibley in doe lea derbyshire as a boarder in 1901. I am desperate to find a marriage/death for him but wondered if he may have died in ww1 but would he have been too old to fight? he would have been 43 in 1914?
thanks for any thoughts
