If the parents were not married at the time of his birth it is possible that he is registered under his mother's maiden name and also his father's surname. |

Remember there is a distinction between entries in the indexes and actual registrations. The birth will appear in the indexes under any names in use at the time of the birth, (so possibly 2 in March depending on Mums circumstances) and then if the birth was re-registered to add the Dad to the registration in December because he was not present fopr whatever reason in March, that would produce the third entry. |
