In 1871 I have an ancestor working as a domestic servant in St Mary Stratford Le Bow London for a R Thomas, occup. Independant Minister. |

I don't know but have you tried looking for R. Thomas in the censuses before and after, see if he is living in a rectory or descibes his occupation as having 'care of souls' that would be my first plan of attack. |

I had found him on the 1871 census but it only says "Independant Minister". It seems to have been a quite wealthy part of London judging from his neighbours. The other people in his household weren't penniless either, one from Berlin another a teacher. Maybe his parishioners were very generous!!! |

Ive come across cure of souls before it seems to mean they dont have a parish of their own. it seems the root word is cure, not care from which "curate "derives. |
