Hi Gwen

If you know the date of death and rough area maybe you could try looking for an obituary in the local paper? If you don’t live in the area most libraries are very helpful or maybe someone on here who lives in that area could look for you?

Good luck

You have checked 1st quarter 1984 first just in case she died late 1983 but was registered in 1984.

Here's hoping. You can do that on date of birth or first names

Best Wishes

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions.
I haven't had chance to trawl more today, as I had to do more boring household tasks.

I might try phoning the local offices around the possible area. ... They can only say "No" if it's not possible for them to help.

I saw the son as a babe in a pushchair. Unfortunately his name is not that uncommon, it would seem.
I'll keep trying.

It's not a major problem but I'd like to complete that detail of her life story.

It might be worthwhile phoning round the register offices in the area you think she may have died. If you know the date she died & all of the names she had from birth except the name her death was reg in the may be able to help you.

I didn't know which surname my grandmother was registered in ( very long story) but I went to the reg office & explained to the nery nice lady there & she went through the register for DOB I knew was correct & she found her for me. Maybe they would do the same?

My local reg office allows you to search the records yourself also. You have to phone to book in & you get so many hours for a set fee.

Gwyn couldn't you do a 192 search for the son of the lady you are looking for and maybe writing him a letter

Theres never quite so much fun to be had from a long search when Ancestry packs up evry 20 or so pages and starts dishing out blanks.! Good hunting

Thank you all for your interest.

I will have to do as Deb says.
If only the death had been the following year it would have been easier to search Ancestry.

5 pages searched and counting !

Ohhhh...............I see what you mean. So, she died under another man's name that she wasn't married to.

It's probably not going to take you as long as you think. If you set aside an hour a day, you should be able to get through each letter in 3-4 days. Times that by 24 and you'll be looking at about 3 months all up.

If you have more spare time, you could halve the long term search.

I know her maiden name, also her married surname, also surname of a son b. 1973

Her death is not registered under any of those surnames.

Hi Gwyn,

Doesn't her first marriage provide her maiden name?

There are 30 pages of A's alone. unless you just plod away a few pages at a time, its a project!

I know her birth date, birth name, ...3 forenames, and her 1st married name.
I know date of death and approximate area.

My plan was to search ALL surnames for a match, as she is not on Ancestry under her maiden name or married name.
I know she was living with someone before she died and may have taken his name, ...surname unknown.

...Just wondered if this was a feasible search.

The number of deaths recorded in any given peiod is the number of deaths which occurred.

If you don't know her name, I'm not sure how you think you have any chance of finding her death...............

I might have to trawl all the deaths in a particular quarter in order to find the recorded death of my cousin.
She died in June 1983. and likely to be recorded then.
How long a search is it?....surname unknown.
I'll have to search a few pages a day.
