Please, please volunteer to transcribe for FreeBMD! I know that all of you out there use it and the more voluteers they get, the quicker we will all have free access to the GRO index! Its totally free and you don't have to do loads of work!

PLEASE PLEASE DO IT!!!!!!!

Hi Matthew

Thought about doing it, but it looks very complicated.

Linda it is very easy once you start, look on Records Office for Dianes thread, FreeBMD - Thought about volunteering? I started in January, prompted by Dianes thread, had thought about it and finally took the plunge. You can do as little or as much as you like.

I have been transcribing for a few months now, and its not so bad, once the software is downloaded, they have done alot of the hardwork for you like when you type in the registration districts, they come up with suggestions for you to choose, same with first names. And as Keith said you can do as little or a much as you like.

Unfortunately, the way I learn is by being shown, no way could i understand written/verbal instructions. BUT, it is something that I would find very interesting if I had the right "teaching" package.

I think I will definitely have a look into it!

The more of us that help, the more it will benefit all of us!

Hi All

If you want to join you have to join a syndicate first. This is a group of nice folk who get given like a year of births to transcribe and you do a page at a time.

Please join!

I am now on about my 4th scan. It is really easy and there are always people to ask if you get stuck!

Come on people, you can do as much or as little as you like!

I first tried to join a syndicate back in January but never got a reply. I've tried three more times since then & havn't heard a word!
What do I do now?

faerykingdom Report 30 May 2008 22:15

Have you tried a different syndicate? I'm with the scan2 syndicate and I heard from them within a day.

Hi Vicky

I have, I started at the first one & made my way down the list. scan2 was the last one I tried.

I think I'm going to try again. I've been worried about trying another too quickly in case I got replies back from earlier attempts, but seeing as most people have heard within a day I'm going to try again. tomorrow.

Can anyone help me here please - I thought I would try to help with the transcribing of records for FreeBMD. I have some instructions but although I've managed to download WinBMD I am unable to download BMDverify. I've followed instructions carefully but to no avail, just wondered if it is something simple that someone here would know.
