Hi JJ,

I always take a deep breath before trying to convert ages into years, for some reason it's a horrible calculation, isn't it? AND not helped by the census being around the end of March/beginning of April - couldn't they have collected the forms on 1 Jan when people were at home with a hangover? (Mind you, that would have restricted the pool of available enumerators!)

Ok, 22 on 2 Feb 1903.
If he had just turned 22 (the youngest he could be), the latest birthdate is 2 Feb 1881.
If he was going to be 23 the following day, the earliest birth date is 3 Feb 1880.

Similarly, 37 on 6 May 1920
Just turned 37 makes the latest birthdate 6 May 1883.
About to turn 38 makes the earliest birthdate 7 May 1882.

Unfortunately, since the ranges don't overlap, you cannot use the two pieces of info to narrow it down.

Since the age of 37 at death was given by the informant, it is less likely to be correct than the age at the wedding (unless they found his birth certificate and calculated the age from that?)

Sorry not to be able to offer anything constructive.

I know you wanted to narrow it down - well I can broaden it out by doing the math correctly. If he's 22 on 3/2/1903, he was born in 1880 or 1881. Anyway, this means he should be on 1881 census, and if he is, this would certainly be helpful re his dob.

Thanks Andy,

I have taken note of this family and will investigate.

My older sister has just told me that there might have been a spinster Jones Aunt living around Walton Liverpool.

She remembers our mum telling of visiting the aunt with her dad , would have to have been before 1920.

Dont know if this recollection 100%.

Thanks J.J.

It's worth a try.
It might name siblings and / or say about his birthplace.

Hi Gwyn... thanks for your interest. The witness's were ..

John Thomas and Sarah Foulkes.

The Jones family lived in L.Pool with their large family untill their deaths.

Sadly none of them are still living.
Only grandchildren who dont have any info to give away/not interested.

Just another thought, because I have his death date of 6/05/1920 in Liverpool. Would I be able to find an obituary in one of their newspapers. ?

Hopefully ... J.J.

Thanks for that Rose.
I have another 1 or 2 families it 'could' be in L.pool born 1881. But with conflicting ages given he may have been born in 82/83.

I just cant work it out correctly.

Cheers J.J.

In 1901 the same family, William is a bricklayer and Fred is a General Labourer. They are still at the same address

Hmmm. Sounds like you might need to wait until the 1911 census comes out.

Hi Rose...
you shouldn't have asked ha ha ...

Its a very differcult one, (as the rest of my elusive family has been)

Knowing his correct year of birth would be very helpful. His name is ...

"Frederick Jones" born either Lancs/Wales.

On his marriage cert in Liverpool 1903 (to Delia Healey age 21) he was a Labourer and 22yrs old.

It says his father is William and he is a Stonemason. I dont know his mother or siblings.

I remember vaguely my mum telling me her father (or grandfather) had a soft Welsh accent.

On the birth cert of Freds son in 1905 it says Fred is a merchant seaman.

I cant tell you anymore about him.
I have the Healey family ok on the census's .. but the name Jones .. with so little info ...aaaargh.

Cheers J.J.

Are you trying to find his birth record? He may have increased his age on his marriage cert so that he was over 21.

What's his name, father's name, etc?

Grandads marriage cert. dated "2nd Feb 1903"
states he is 22yrs old. (birth 1881-1882 ?)

His death cert. dated 6th May 1920
states he is 37yrs old. (birth 1882-1883 ?)

Can anyone narrow it down any further please. ?

I have been on this computor for four hrs now and can no longer think straight.

Thank you .... J.J.
