what does Jno mean?

I always thought it was short for Jonathon, seems silly to shorten John by one letter and get the o and n the other way round, but then they did silly things in 'those days'. And of course John is a shorter version of Jonathon. |

Hi I have a child on a census withthe 'name' Jno. Looking at the page almost every family has teh same. At first I thought it was short for Junior ie same name as dad but then some of dads are called Jno too?? |
