Could someone please explain to me why it is that you can put details of someone in the system e.g. on Ancestry and it does not come up with their birth details.

I was looking for my late mother in laws brothers registration but nothing showed up so I tried her details just to test it and there was no info.

Am I doing something wrong?

The records do not cover all years
1920-1983 do not show on the normal search.

Go on records click on the births section. put there first name in and then there maiden name or the surname at birth in and then there year of birth. it will then come up choose the one with the year your looking for. Then choose the quarter (say they were born april 1938 choose the one that says quarter april-may-june or if there two that says april in them choose the one thats got the closest to your name your looking for so ivy gertrude blacksmith you'd choose the the one that is from blak a to bonnie u as it has there intials in it i.e. the first name is in it ivy is in the middle of it) then scroll till you find the surname and there name check there mother maiden with what you now or if you now were they were born and you can them save this to your computer. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CREDITS TO DO THIS. Do you get it?

Not all records are transcribed, you nead to search the actual index's to get records from about 1920 upto 1983
