Is there any way I can find out about a person's mother's surname without having to apply for a birth certificate? I have a choice of four birth certificates because the name is popular and all in the same place and year. I don't want to take the risk of ordering the wrong one. Thanks.

When did the birth occur?

Do you know the mother's forename?

Have you looked for the marriage of the parents?

You can stipulate the father's name and mother's forename when ordering a birth cert....if they don't match, the cert will not be sent
