I have found info Mary Ann Mead (born 1858 and died approx 1897, married John Beautyman Aug 1879 in the district of Mile End Old Town, Middlesex. The marriage certificate i obtained states Mary's father as Robert Mead, occupation - stone mason.) |

There's a Mary Ann Mead in the 1861 Census born about 1858 whose fathers name in Henry John. States her birthplace is Kent and residing in Surrey in 1861. There's also an Alice Jane Mead aged 1, mum's called Mary Ann Mead aged 27 and dad is Henry John Mead aged 28. I can't get any more info off this as I haven't got a subscription at the moment but its on Ancestry. |

I have a few relatives in my tree who swop and change between their first and middle names and think it wasn't uncommon when your mum/dad/cousins had the same name as you. |

Alternatively..... in the 1871 census - if you just type mary Mead in, fathers name John and allow a couple of years either side for her birth year there are a couple of possibilities either born or living in London, one in partic was Stepney... |

Although I think that family is unlikely as this appears to be them in the 1881 Census and Mary A is still showing as living at home and as a Mead and your Mary married Mr. Beautyman in 1879 so not the right family I think.... |

Is this your Mary? |

Can't find either a John or Mary Beautyman in the 1881 Census - although Im guessing its fairly easily been mistranscribed. There is however in the 1891 census a Mary Ann Beautyman with her husband, John Beautyman living in London (again no finer details as no current subscription) but they have 6 children aged 1 to 10 |

Many thanks Linda, the witnesses on the marriage cert are Sarah Beautyman and Mary Ann Craddock (i think Craddock is correct although writing is not that clear) |

Have you managed to find them on the 1901 census at all then? John and the children at least? If Mary Ann's not present then that death in 1897 is a possibility. |
