i have someone on 1891 census who,s occupation was Nickey Making ....Anyone know what this is please let me know cos i,m baffled.........

The only family member that has an occupation listed is Thomas and he is a labourer. Jane is only 8 and has no occupation.

I Googled "nickey" and found a page that described a game boys and girls would play which said that a "nickey" was a piece of slate about 2" x 2". I don't know if this has anything to do with the occupation of your ancestor though. Were there any slate mines in the area?

I posed this question on another forum, and got this reply:

"According to the OED Nicky is kindling wood.. So little bundles of wood pieces used for starting fires."

That sounds like a possibility to me.
