Just thought I would add

I have seen where the tree owner has changed their name to, for example,

"Away until 11/06/08"
"Please contact after 11/06/08"

Probably a good idea if you are expecting a long period of absence from the site or want time to catch up with your own research.

OK it won't stop anyone contacting you before that date but it does warn them not to expect a reply in the short term

If only I was that organized!!! :))))

I guess the member changed to "membership lapsed" because there isn't an easy way to remove your tree as even if you delete, your individuals are still searchable by name.

I wonder if they have done that so no-one will contact them but if so why bother to have your tree on here.

I think I have sussed it!!
That is the members board name.
They have gone into "my account" and changed their first name to "membership lapsed"
How strange!

I noticed this a few of days ago

and It is still shows on the surname Hawkins

There are two types of membership Standard, which is free, and Full for which you pay a subscription. Full Members who choose not to renew their subscription revert to being Standard Members.

Standard members are allowed to reply to messages sent by Full Members, but they are not allowed to initiate messages.

I have had a quick look, but cant see any reference to lapsed membership when searching. Where does it appear and what is the message?

I have just done the same search again and this time membership lapsed does only appear on previous contacts. Perhaps it was just a glitch before - I've been having a few lately. However, even this is better than nothing as sometimes you contact someone and do not have a match at the time but further down the line you think that you may have and want to contact them again.

I always thought that it did not matter if the membership had lapsed if the person still has the same e.mail address then they should receive your e.mail.

Me too please, I would like to know aswell, as I have emailed people and haven't heard back either. Just assumed they'd changed their email address or something.

I cannot find any such information.

I have just noticed that when you Search Trees it now shows where a membership has lapsed. Sadly there were quite a few on the name I was looking for, but at least I was saved contacting them and never receiving a reply.
