My great grandmother's brother was called David Humberstone born in Ashby, Lincolnshire C1860 I have him on the 1881 census as living in barracks in Exeter as he was a gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery, After that I can find no sign of him at all. I think he may have served in India at some point but as far as I am aware he returned to the UK but I have no other information. Has anyone any ideas |

Have you looked to see if the spelling of the name changed? I know someone who married a Huttlestone and her husband traced his tree back to some Huddlestones in the 1800's. |

Thanks for your ideas. I hadn't thought of an incorrect name spelling - will look into that |

My husband's great grandmother married name was Humberstone, and on various census, it is Hummerstone, Humperstonne, Humblestone, so worth trying these. |
