cause of death on a 1873 death certificate

Does anyone know what "post parsem haemorhage syncope" shown as a cause of death means. Not sure if the spelling is correct as very difficult to read.

you are right jill,
post partum haemorrage is bleeding after childbirth and syncope is fainting...
common I believe in times gone by.

Thank you all for your help. I think the baby did survive but his Mum was only 39 when she died having had 10 children, what a hard life they must have had.

I've also seen it descibed as "flooding" on a d.cert from about that time. That confused us for a while !!
