Joe

From my experience of irish families (I have one in my tree), they never knew their ages, never registered their kids and changed their names on every census.

Good luck

GypsyJoe Report 1 Mar 2008 17:51

The 1871 family is definately not them the 1881 family is. I worked out theDOB etc going back from using marriage and censuses.

I did find myself in Ireland a John Foley marrying and Ellen but the surname was different to the one on the birth certificate.

Thanks for your help anyway guys, I guess I'll get there eventually.

Ooops would apear so..

Patrick Foley
Sept Quart 1869
Whitechapel
Vol 1C, pg 379

I have the certificate. I also have his marriage Certificate. It's his parents marriage I'm trying to find. On the censuses it has them as being born in Ireland. Patrick and two sets of twin brothers and a sister Ellen. I might just have to get some of those birth certificates as well to help narrow it down.

Joe

I am confused - I thought the birth cert was for a Foley, father John mother Ellen!!

Are you mixing up your threads?

GypsyJoe

GypsyJoe Report 1 Mar 2008 16:05

The birth reference for May Eliza Ellis is Sept 1874, Poplar, 1C, pg574

But how would you view that? I have the copy of the birth certificate and if I have my own computer and a scanner I would scan and send a copy, but I'm using the services at at internet cafe.

I'm definately thinking her mother is Ann Shillcock now.

Thanks Potty,

I know that according to the censuses that both John and Ellen were born in Ireland. My great grandfathers birth certificate Ellen was formerly it looks to be McCarty. His occupation was a wharf labourer.

I did think that there might have been more than one Patrick Foley to a John and Ellen but I can only find the one, which I'm guessing means I have the right ones.

If anyone can help that would be great, I guess it's time to conceed and ask for help.

Joe

If they are on the 1911 census when it comes out, there POBs might help to trace them in Ireland.

What is the date of the birth cert you mention?

Have you already asked for help to find the marriage?

If not, post details of the birth cert and I am sure somebody will help

Thanks Jacqui too bad they'd come to England by that stage.

I'll just have to give up that branch for now I guess.

Unfortuntely Joe there is no official online BMD index for Ireland.
The only thing we can do is what you have already done and trawl the sites others have placed info on.

On a brighter note The Irish National Archives website are publishing the 1911 census county by county and Kerry is next on the list.

I think this is the end!!!!

I can't find a record for a John Foley and an Ellen except Conner. According to the birth certificate that it's not that last name.I I can't really read her surname but it looks a bit like McCarty.

I know there are lots and lots of posts on this site for Irish links; the thing is unless you plan on spending hours crawling through them all and trying them, then it's a bit useless. Not that I haven't already gone through a number of the posts and links and have now got fed up because none were of any help or at least I didn't find what I was after.

I am trying to find a link that will let me search for BDM in Ireland.

So can anyone please, please, please point me in the right direction?

The County is Kerry. I can't afford to pay someone to research and not only that I like discovering these things myself.
