Red Cross, Temporary Pass

Can anyone tell me why temporary passes were issued to people for the purpose of the Red Cross. Am trying to find out about a relative and have a temporary pass for her at Station Watton in 1943. The Red Cross have no record of her. Family gossip says she worked for the Intelligence Services. |

I seem to recall that British prisoners of war in German camps received Red Cross parcels... I wonder if your relative's cover story was a driver etc going behind enemy lines - and taking the opportunity to keep eyes and ears open? Willing to stand corrected, only a guess. |

If it were a cover story I dont think it would alert people by having it as "temporary". Watton station? In Norfolk? I believe there was a small airfield there - the army camp has in the last 10 years or so been sold off to private developers. |
