Thats not a brick wall :-)

A brick wall is when you have exhausted every possible avenue of research and there is no possibility of getting back any further :-)

Parish records, bishops transcripts, the IGI (subject to confirmation from the PR's) Poor law records, taxation, wills, etc etc etc.

Long way to go before its a brick wall so keep looking and good luck!

There are no certs prior to the introduction of general registration ....in late 1837.

Parish registers will be what you need...........

Have you looked on the IGI?

You could also try googling OPC (online parish clerk) for the appropriate area.

I am really stuck on one particular ancestor.

Any help is not only much needed but also very, very welcome.

The ancestor in question is - William Chewings
bc. 1787 Stoke st Gregory, Taunton
d. 1878

He married Miriam Hallett in Taunton 1833

I have found him on all the cesus from 1841-1871

But how do i go back any further?

Is my next route to get the marriage cert? If so how do i find the cert number?

Any help appriciated
Rebecca
