Hi Heather

Just tried, and it's working fine for me.

I access ancestry.co.uk from Canada

Well, thats a blow, it is back how it was yesterday, just starts up with the headings and doesnt load. Well, surely that must prove something - if it works perfectly ok during the night then surely it must be an overload thats causing the problem, must be their servers because otherwise Id have the same prob with all sites.

Just noticed (tabbed) that my ancestry has just loaded after 20 minutes!!

Heather Report 29 Feb 2008 01:23

Well Im sitting here at 1.20 a.m. and Im searching ancestry with no problem at all. Ive done a system restore to the beginning of Feb but I dont know if thats whats done the trick or whether its because its this unearthly hour that its working.

Will see in the morning - but obviously not a security prob at all as they suggest.

Nite guys

Margaret

I got that yesterday and the day before, with the 1851 Census

Just swore quietly to myself!!

2 days ago there was a thread complaining about 1851 census coming up with the wrong names .

When you look for someone you get the correct name but other people on the page are entirely different. The image is correct.

Now its happening on 1841 census.

What on earth is going on.

I rang again spoke to another techi who said it must be my security causing the problem. I said Ive had same security for 4 years and had no problem accessing ancestry all that time, except for probs when you add new census etc. Thats all she could suggest. I took off ad blocker, pop up blocker, ad aware, spy bot and even avg 7.5 in the end and STILL I couldnt get on there.

I have spent most of the day trying to get on there. For a glorious 20 minutes I could access it through mozilla fire fox but then it disappeared again. Ive just downloaded yet another cleansing program, clearing just about all my stuff, done a system restore to the beginning of the month and STILL NO JOY. Its making me feel drained now.

It is now seriously doing my head in!!!!!! I posted the same thread a while ago, I have complained, I have done all the technical bit, and the only time I can access is just before i go to work or midnightish!

Heather Report 27 Feb 2008 20:15

You wont believe, I rang up and hung on for ages for another technician. He tells me there has been a problem with servers which he thought was now reseolved, "but I will send you instructions to make sure you are getting the current site, not the problem one". He sent me an email which had a link to - yes, ancestry so I am unable to open it anyway.

Heather

Oh!.....The sites I have added must have had the 's'.

Have you tried adding the 's' to the http thingy (technical term there!) to see if that works?

Chris

Heather Report 26 Feb 2008 15:38

Gawd, thats SO annoying. I got through to technical in a few minutes today - she starts telling me to clear cookies etc. Told her done all that. I click on ancestry and the whole lot comes up again working SCREAM.

So she could only say that a server must be having probs somewhere - nothing she could do to help.

Heather

Heather Report 26 Feb 2008 15:30

Just tried to add ancestry to the trusted sites but it bungs up a message "only sites with https can be added to this site (the security ones).

Heather

Heather Report 26 Feb 2008 15:27

Well, I went there today, straight in and did an hours work. Just gone to have another look and again I cant get in. I cant understand this at all. Ill ring them now but I cant wait half an hour again.

Heather

I am no expert but I know how to add a trusted site :)

Go to Tools
Select Internet Options
Click on Security
Click on Trusted Sites
Click on box labled 'Sites'
Clear the box "Add this website to this zone"
Enter Ancestry's addy....As you start typing a drop down box will probably appear and I expect Ancestrys addy will be there so you can click on that.
Click on add......And that should be it...Fingers crossed!!!

Spoke too soon :( Disappeared again. This is ridiculous.

James, what advice did they give you please?

Heather

Heather Report 25 Feb 2008 21:16

Glory Be!!!!! Just been there, clicked and woo hoo its back! It must have been a server down their end and thats why they had so many people queuing - may be they have finally fixed it. I do hope so, Im quite nervous of going back there now.

Heather Report 25 Feb 2008 20:59

Christine, Ive tried just about everything I can think of and I have IE7 and mozilla, it really is maddening.

Heather

Heather Report 25 Feb 2008 20:58

Well, I did phone James but it was 26 minutes queue so I had to hang up and get on with some work. What did she tell you to do please? As I cleared mine aswell because of the trojan on here.

Hi Heather,

It may seem a stupid question but have you tried logging out and then back in again. Also which browser are you using? I'm using IE and have no problems.

I am currently sitting here waiting for my turn at their tech dept. The recording has just told me there is a 26 minute queue!! So looks like we arent the only ones with complaints anyway. Ive hung up, I cant sit here for half an hour
