Please could someone tell me if a death certificate of a female would give her maiden name?
Many thanks.

i think it depends on when it's from. i have one from 1976 which has a box for "maiden surname of a woman who has married". but obviously thats quite a recent one, one i have from 1897 does not have maiden name. although it may sometimes say "wife of ......."

Thanks all for your replies.
The death was of Sarah Foskett in 1845 Barnet.
I know she was married to George, but wanted to find out her maiden name.

if she had children and they were registered, then that would be the way to go to get her maiden name from one of the birth certs.

Thanks very much Shirley.
I'm going to break open the piggy bank and buy both certificates.
Thanks again for your help.
