If you can't help, don't worry, i will pop to the library next week and have a look, am waiting for newspaper article, but not sure if it will tell me loads of information.
thanks

Isaac Wood was killed in a place called back stubbin elsecar. He could have lived in Elsecar or scholes or somewhere in that area. The small clip of the paper mentions no age or where he was from or any next of kin. Sorry to be so vauge. Could be from hoyland or anywhere like that.
thanks

Hi,

I have an article about this from the Guardian for you - it gives a little more info but not enough to help much ?

If you would like me to send it to you - pm me your direct e-mail address.

Hi,

I have been trawling through Stubbing and Elescar on 1851 and 1861 but can't really come up with anything certain.

However, I DID find on 1861 an Isabelah Hague + children Catherine (4) and John William (2). - Her husband was 'in penal servitude' !!!!

Looks like this could be William's family ???

She is with her parents William + Elizabeth Mallinson.

I searched for a marriage but could only find:

William Hague m MARY Mallinson - Wortley June 1854.

As there are no birth records for an Isabella I think this might well be the one.

Interestingly, William was 'Out' by 1871 and back with his family (+ an extra couple of children), so he didn't serve for long then ??

Anyway, perhaps you might like to follow this?

Let me know if it leads anywhere.

P.S. - I don't know why but I can't find anything about a trial.
