how to do a defrag please

I would do a disc clean 1st then defrag
follow the steps Laptop has given you but do disc clean 1st then dfrag

Firstly shut down all running programs.
Then click on the following;
Start
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
Defragment

Then it does everything in easy steps

Could someone tell me hoe to do a defrag in easy terms as my computer seems to be running very very slow thank you
