Hi

I am trying to find the birth of my great grand mother. I have her marriage cert, but no father is mentioned. She was married in Tonbridge and living at High Street Penbury. Her name was Alice Nye and according to her marriage cert she was born around 1896. I have found 2 for the year, one registered in Eton and one registered in Islington.

She had her first child in Newport Pagnell. This is all I know about her, so which one do you think she might be if any?, lol

Nye is her maiden name, mum did say that her children were put into care because she was a lady of the night, which confused me as she was married. Only thing I can think of is that maybe her hubby died and she did this to provide an income. She married a Smith, so looking for her is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack lol.

The witnesses to the marriage were Eliza Flynn and an Olive Cosham or Corham, something like that as its a bit difficult to read.

There is this Alice Nye on the 1901 census. Although it says her parents are Christopher and Jane, going by their ages I would think it is more likely she is a grandaughter:-

I saw that one too, and have tried to look in earlier censuses to see if any other names come up that might be familiar but havent found anything yet.

My nan had 2 daughters and 1 son, although I havent found his birth details yet, but the girls were called Eileen Dorris Smith mmn Nye and Eunice Mary Smith mmn Nye. The son was called Sydney Joseph Smith, but like I said I havent found his birth reg yet.
