Margaret that first reference of yours fits with the tree on Sussexweald - looks like his mother was Frances Midmore.

Also the second reference looks as if it matches too.

Sussexweald info - which seems to match the 1861 census above:

http://www.sussexweald.org/N10.asp?NId=5312734

gives a family tree on there and I'm sure there are lots of other bits of info too.

have a look at Sussexweald site - I know there is info on Rotherfield on there. You might find info on parish records on the family around 1851.

This must be the one you found in 1861.

I have looked at the image and there is a thick line through the age, but it could well be 10.

well that's the trouble its my great grandfather George Albert Rogers brn charlwood surrey 1898.

on 1901 his father is thomas brn abt.1875 in East Grinstead.

i think i have him on 1881 with parents John and sarah aged 6. but can't find him on 1891.

You need to start with the person whose info you know to be 100% correct.

What relation to you is John Rogers?

hi all

i'm getting a bit confused by the census' for my rogers family. i know that John Rogers was born in Rotherfield sussex around 1850. but i can't find him on 51 or 61 census with parents there are none that fit. then in 71 he is married to jane with son thomas. his wife is correct but my thomas wasn't born until 1874 in which case where is my john?! i have them on 81 census but now there are two thomas john sarah familys all born rotherfield or buxton in sussex. can someone help me sort this jumbled mess please?!
