I still cannot get full details on NAS without timing out but I am really confused now.

There are two entries with the names of my father and his previous wife. The first entry is dated 1944 and starts thus:
'Interim decree of divorce (Poor)' and it names another man. Is this the equivalent of our decree nisi?

The second entry just gives their names & another then the one word Divorce. It is dated 8 years after the interim decree - and 7 years (and three children) after he married my mother.

I went to the site and wow - back to original theory I think, just a few mysteries to unravel along the way, but then thats what this is all about.
Right now I can't open the links to get more details (keeps timing out) but will try again later after work.

You should be able to find the divorce. Search by one of the parties names only.

The site has been a little temperalmental over the last few days so it may take a few trys.

I know a site which makes regular trips to the NAS and would be able to get a copy for you (at a small price). Let me know if you'd like their web address.

Hi Lynda,

I applied for divorce papers relating to 1919 (my grandads) It was like reading his life story!
There was a transcript in his own words describing what took place on his return from the war.

That was many years ago and not sure if they are protected for so many years, but I had no problem with ordering from Edinburgh. Good Luck

My father had been married before he married my mother, and as they married in 1945 and he was Roman Catholic you can understand this was not as easy then as it is today, and from experience even now divorce is not easy.

Anyway, as children, and dad died when I was 8, we always thought that dad had gone to war and while he was away his wife met someone else and emigrated to Canada with him and my half brother and sister.

And then I got hooked on my family tree!
I found dad's first marriage on scotlandspeople, and it has a 'divorce' stamp at the side with 1936 written at the side. First theory blown away!
But then today I noticed an RCE and clicked. It says it relates to my dads first marriage, is dated 1936 and corrects a lady's name!!

I looked up about RCE and it says if the correction is connected to divorce it does not link with the divorce.
Would I be able to find out more about the divorce if I went to the Register Office in Edinburgh?
