Hello!

A friend has asked me to try to trace the family of John Wilson. Here's what I know:

John Wilson (born sometime between 1785 and 1800) was a lifelong resident of Yorkshire. He worked as a carpenter and joiner. He had at least three children:

Elizabeth (b. 2 Feb 1819 in Yorkshire, near York) married Thomas Carlton BROWN (more on his family later) on December 14, 1841 at Sutton-on-the-Forest, Yorkshire, England at the Episcopalian Church.

Richard (b. 10 August 1831 in Yorkshire, near York).

--and--

John (b. between 1819 and 1831).

Elizabeth, her husband and Richard left Yorkshire for the port of New Orleans (USA) in 1847. John was not on that vessel, but was in Illinois by 1855 in time to witness the birth of his first child.

John fought for the South in the Civil War. Suspect he married a Confederate sympathizer from Kentucky. Near the end of the war, he joined "Quantrill's Raiders", a "Bloody Bill Anderson" regiment, and was killed a few months prior to the birth of his son Thomas. John's wife died within the year leaving 5 young children without parents--all were farmed out to relatives.

Thomas Edward Wilson, b. 1865, was farmed out to John's sister, Elizabeth. He ran away at age 18 and never heard from his aunt and uncle again. Settled in the present day Dexter, Texas near Gainesville.

Thomas Carlton BROWN (Elizabeth's husband) was born near the city of York in 1816. He was a breeder and farmer--probably learned from his father, George.

George BROWN married Mary CARLTON on October 16, 1797 in Sutton-on-the-Forest, Yorkshire, England, probably the same church as Thomas and Elizabeth.

If anyone has any information on this family please let me know!!!

Thanks!!
