Find Ancestors

I am looking for the wife of the above- especially her maiden name - she was called "Nellie" which could be short for a number of names.? Also the date of their marriage. I believe they had 2 children, but I`m not sure. Names are perhaps Denis and Jean.

Any further information would be appreciated.

I started looking from 1914 when he would have been 20 and this is the first marriage for that name in Leicestershire:-

Frederick G. Chester to Hilda M Vickers
Sept. qtr. 1917, Uppingham, 7a, 675

Unfortunately not a Nellie.

Have you any idea at all when the first child might have been born?

I think he was born in Leicester. His parents were George Price Chester and Elizabeth Hutchinson. I think Fred`s middle name was also Hutchinson. I believe his mother came from Sileby.

I know the name Nellie is rather tricky - it could stand for a lot of names and might only be a nickname.

No idea when the first child was born, I`m afraid. Have looked in freebmd but not found anything.

Yes, the 1901 census shows the family but is not much help with Fred`s family, unfortunately.

His middle name is definitely Hutchinson. Here is his birth reference:-

He must have married quite young to have a child in 1912, though it's not impossible.

Could he have married out of the area? The only Frederick H. Chester that comes up on the partially transcribed marriage index on Ancestry is this one (of course there may be more on the complete index):-

It's just guessing really though without an idea of when he married and the children were born.

i thought was young too but adding up would have been 18?..cant find a marriage to a taplin. ...

Back again! I have a photo of the marriage of Fred and Nellie and he looks about 30ish, definitely not 18. I don`t know if this is any help. If he married in 1917 he`d be about 23. Wish I could post the photo so that you can judge for yourselves!

If the marriage to Kathleen Sherif is the right one it was during WW! (1917) which might explain the change of area.

Jean chester is my sister in law she married Eric John hall and lived a few doors away from her mother and father who are now deceased. John and Jean emigrated to australia some 30 years ago. John dies two years ago and Jean suffers from dementia and is in a home near Brisbane. Dennis I believe still lives in the Leicester area.
