Find Ancestors

Forgive the nudge to the very very old post, this is not a new request for info or help!

I am adding this is for my info in reference to the Hore Hoar Hoare (esp. of Cornwall/Devon) YDNA project I am part of, and I am looking here at this site for possible relations of families from Cornwall and Devon with those surnames. It is also in case anyone else related looks for info about those surnames at this site or finds this discussion from an internet search, I will always be reachable by messages sent through this site (and I should get notice of additions to this 'watched thread') as the email address I have used for my account here is the address I use for the YDNA project specifically and it will always be in use ... in fact I have named my nephew as the administrator of the DNA project membership once I am gone :-)

It seems that whatever info Christa posted here has been deleted but I think it was the basic census info: in the 1891 census in Hammersmith are Rose Hoare, aged 35, widow, hairdresser, born in Cornwall, with daughter Sarah E, 5, born in Hammersmith.

I believe Rose was probably Rose Ellen Williams birth registered 1856 in Falmouth, born Mylor per 61, 71, 81 censuses. In 1881 she is a dressmaker with her widowed mother Elizabeth in Gillingham Kent, none of the other family members from the 1861 census in Cornwall is with them. There is no likely marriage, death or later census for Rose Ellen Williams.

In 1881 there is a Charles Hoare born abt 1848 in Bideford Devon living in the Marines barracks in Alverstoke. There were Royal Marined barracks in Gillingham as well and I suspect this is how Rose and Charles met. They do not appear to have married. In 1891 Charles, 43, a cordwainer, is married to Mary J, 25 (Baglole, marriage 1889 Fulham, which covers Hammersmith where Ellen Sarah was born), living in Islington (in 1901 they are in Braunton, Mary J's place of birth). ........ This is just a possibility for Charles .........

Rose Ellen was a hairdresser in 1881, I would doubt that Ellen Sarah's father Charles Hoare was a hairdresser. I can find no trace of Rose after 1891, but I would wonder about Rose L Burgan shown in 1901 as a servant in Mile End, of whom there is aso no trace before or after, by marriage or birth, born Kea Cornwall (where Rose Ellen Williams's mother was born, 3 or 4 miles from Mylor).

Ellen Sarah Hoare appears to have married Herbert Gwinnell in 1908. That is presumably the part that Star knew. I wonder whether she has solved the mystery in the last 8 years, if not this is a possibiity :-) My interest is of course in male descendants of Charles Hoare or his brothers if any as the Charles Hoare I have found had no sons (91,01,11). His family in 1861 was

Thomas Hoare 22
John Hoare 18
Charles Hoare 13
Edward Hoare 10
Henry Hoare 7
Mary E Hoare 5

There are trees on line that show Charles and father John but no more info about Charles than his birth, two people here have John in their tree, and I will include them when I contact members about the YDNA project.

Looked on FamilyRelatives, nothing for Stratford and that year for Charles Hoare.

Thanks for replies Debi the marriage does look promising , would i have to quote both page numbers if i ordered the cert. Tracey thank you for your info, the problem is i dont know where Charles Hoare was born but i can keep it on file. According to info Crista found on them in 1891 census Rose was born in Cornwall but i dont know if it said the exact place and in the 1901 census though it said she was born St Austell, could this been mistranscribed and possibly should have been St Anthony, i dont know Cornwall well so i might be wrong. Could anyone help me please try and find a marriage, this family is my brickwall and this marriage should hopefully help me chip away at it. The names are Charles Hoare married Rose Ellen Hill This info is taken from daughters birth cert on 1885 at Bramley road Fulham, Hammersmith. Charles is a hairdresser. From info found on 1891 census this daughter looks like an only child as Rose is widowed by 1891. This i hope will mean that they married npossibly near to 1885. Hope this is enough info for someone out there to help me find them, or give me clues where else to look. Thanks Cherry
