Cheers Malcolm, that is definitely him - they married in Edinburgh, then moved up to Montrose, as Jean's family came from Arbroath. Then later on, we think about 1845, they came back to Portobello, then sailed for NZ on the Ajax in 1848. Another family member was independently researching unbeknowns to me, so we have corroborated the info. Thank you

Reposting the 2005 hit from http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

1841 Census
Piece: SCT1841/312 Place: Montrose -Angus Enumeration District: 5
Civil Parish: Montrose Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 5 Page: 17
Address: Castle Street
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
CAMPBELL Peter M 28 Basket Maker Outside Census County (1841)
CAMPBELL John M 7 Outside Census County (1841)
CAMPBELL Peter M 1 Angus
CAMPBELL Ann F 4 Angus
CAMPBELL Jean F 29 Angus
FRASER Ann F 15 Flax Spinner Outside Census County (1841)
BURNESS Henry M 20 Baker Jrnyman Angus
WALLACE William M 15 Baker Appr Angus
PHEASE William M 15 Baker Appr Angus

Although by now, most of 1841 for Scotland is transcribed, there's still 6 incomplete of the 33 counties, viz BEW, KKD, PER, RFW, SHI, SUT. Abt 15% of Peter Campbells are missing from FreeCEN. However, a free search on Ancestery for Peter Campbell (soundex) with keyword=basket just gets one hit, specifically the guy I posted.

Hey thanks Chloe, I am only just getting to grips with following these threads, and have belatedly found your reply to my 2005 request, which I posted and then couldn't find on the older version of GR. The details are definitely my ancestors confirmed by another researcher in the family, but thanks for your efforts anyway :)

I have an address for Peter and Jean Campbell at time of marriage (28 May 1833) as 7 Hill Place, Edinburgh, belive they may have moved to Portobello, before emigrating to New Zealand in 1848. They would have had three or four children at time of 1841 census, and Peter Campbell was a basket maker by trade. Can anyone help with a lookup for me, as I am in New Zealand?
