welcome to the boards Osian - you may not have noticed, but this is a very old posting - you may be able to contact the original poster via GR by clicking on the board name, but that's the only posting this poster ever made

Hi
John William Brayshay married Elizabeth Ann Boxall in 1905 recorded in Wandsworth, Greater london, Surrey vol 1d pg 1374. If you get a copy it should name her father which would give you her maiden name. Also you could get Winifred's birth certificate which should give her maiden name.

In 1901 she appears to be living at 4 Bangor Place, Farnley, Yorks. She is a widow and needlewoman, plain, working on her own account. It says she is 30 and was born in Leeds. Living with her are Emma E who is 5 and born in Malta, and Caroline F who is 4 and was born in Cape Town, South Africa.

Could this be your family?

I am trying to find information about my grandmother who lived in Yorkshire, in Leeds & Harrogate at the turn of the last century. She married a man (name unknown) who was in the army & went out to India with him and bore him 2 children. While there, both he and the two children died. She returned to England and married a man whose surname was BOXALL, and bore him 2 daughters, Elaine and Caroline in the 1890's. Elaine died when she was young, [Caroline (my aunt) lived until the late 1970s.] I know my grandmother at some time became a librarian, then around the turn of the century he (BOXALL) died and her third marrige was to a man called JOHN BRAYSHAY and she bore him a daughter, my mother Winifred on 07 06 08. I think my grandmother's name was Elizabeth, but as I don't know her maiden name, I can't trace the family any further back and wondered if any Boxalls, might be able to help? My mother had a relative I think a cousin called Donald Wilkinson (possibly Elaine's son?), who may still be alive (He had three sons but one died) but I simply don't know the links as everybody who knew seems to have died by now. Can anyone throw any light on to my grandmother's first marriage or her maiden name please? Catherine.
