Trying to find McLaven

Sydney George F McLaven/Laven We are trying to find out more about our Great Grandfather. Much mystery seems to surround his name. We have found him on the 1881 Census as Sydney LAVEN, but by 1885 he married Fanny Terrey AS MCLAVEN and later had several children, Douglas, Howard, Frank and Laurence. We have now recieved his marriage certificate and his Father is named as a Edward MCLAVEN, but to be honest we wonder whether he was infact just Laven? Would like to hear from anyone that may have any links with either McLaven or Laven and may shed any light on our family history. Received his Death Certificate and was shocked to find he died in 1907 (40 years old) in a Lunatic Asylum in Salisbury stopping family rumours that he had jumped off a bridge in New York !!! I have now been trying to go back without success for two years...Please is there anyone out there that can shed light on where to look as I can not find his birth anywhere and wonder if he was born under another name. This is just so frustrating. Thank you
