My father was John McCabe born to Catherine (Katie) McCabe in the HIGH TEAMS WORKHOUSE, NOW THE BENSHAM HOSPITAL GATESHEAD on May 10th 1912. His Mother gave him up at birth to be adopted by RICHARD JACOBSON AND HIS WIFE. His mother is believed to have come from Stanley (Co.Durham) (POSSIBLY) I have been told she had a brother or Uncle possibly studying to be a priest around that time. Eventually Katie married JAMES hooper in Blaydon on Tyne and apparantly had other children. I do believe that one of these children married an Italian however did not settle in England and went back to Italy. Since then an Itialian gentleman came to see my mother asking about my father, my mother by this time was a widow and was very nervous about telling a stranger information.
