Hello Linda and Tim,

I know we have made contact by Facebook, although I don't use my page. I cannot help you with Arthur Payne other than to tell you that Minnie Vorley, father Charles and mother Minnie (Senior) Ireson were related but I can't remember how. I think the house in Havelock Street, Wellingborough, may have been one of many built by Francis Ireson, builders of Wellingborough. He was Minnie Senior's father, and one of my great grandfathers x ? Francis Ireson, bandleader, bought the Salvation Army to Wellingborough from Croydon, although from Warmington originally. He knew and worked with William Booth the founder. Have you contacted Jon Bolton, he may be of help re Arthur Payne.

Best wishes,

Sue Flower (nee Yapp)

My G Grandfather was Arthur Payne who, I understand was born in Harpole in 1859. Unfortunately, I have so far been unable to find out his specific birth details - although I do know that his father's name was George. According to the 1881 census, Arthur was aged 21, a Lieut in the Salvation Army and living as a Boarder at 33 Rackham Street, London. On the 26/10/1882 Arthur married Annie Maria Vorley (sometimes called Ann Vorley) from Havelock Street in Wellingborough at the Salvation Army Mission Hall in Wellingborough. On their marriage certificate, Arthur is recorded as being a Captain in the Salvation Army and George as a Hawker. Arthur and Annie had two children: Ethel (my Grandmother) who was born in Wellingborough on the 30/3/1886 and Florence who was born in Yarmouth in 1889. She sadly died in Wellingborough. aged 6. By 1901 Arthur, Annie and Ethel had moved to Orpington in Kent where Arthur worked as a shoemaker.
