Without investigating and examining certificates I would say this occurrence is entirely possible. Women who give birth to children at fairly short intervals seem to be able to keep bearing them until they are nearly 50, as long as they have good average health. These days we don't see much of it, but there are some families who just keep going to 20 or so children. If 26 years after marriage seems a long time, have a look at age at marriage - it could well have been 16 under special license. Even if Mary Jane was 22 at marriage, she would only be 48, 26 years later- quite able to bear a child if she was in the habit of doing so! Of course many of her peers might have stopped years before, but she was a tough lady! I've noticed that my grandmother Gertrude Lawrence's mother was Harriet Dolman and had loads of children, while Harriet herself came from a brood of 10. |

Marriage between Mary Jane Dolman and John William Hatton. I was given some data on a marriage between the above couple, after studying the dates...June 1893 to when my father was born (Thomas Henry Hatton) in 1919, this would have meant dad was born 26yrs after the wedding. I don't know if this is probable or not, even though dad did say he was the younger of 21 children. Does anyone out there have any suggestions, I would love this info to be correct but if I have doubts I won't add to my tree, it would be silly to grasp at straws. Please, all you kind hearted helpers out there, let me know if you have any info, thanks in anticipation, Gail |
