More info on Richard Steward. He did marry an Indian woman, her name was Beatrice ( don't know her surname), he had about 2 or 3 businesses, 1 was leather & saddle business. Him & Beatrice had a son but Beatrice couldn't have anymore children, Richard came over to England in 1953 for a holiday & wanted to take my mum back with him but her father John Francis Steward said no. He lived in Lucknow, India as that is part of the address on the letter my mum received from him. He died in India. My mum has told me she doesn't know when he went or how he travelled there or if he was in the war to have arrived there. She doesn't know when he died either. There's no one left on mum's side of the family to ask so don't know anything more. Hope someone can help with this :-) |

The only thing I do know about Richard Steward is that he went to India, he married a lady in India but don't know if she was from India or England. I got this info off my mum as she has a letter from Richard & at one stage wanted to take her to live in India but my grandparents wouldn't allow it. My mum was born in 1938. I know the letter exists as I have seen it. I'll have to see if my mum can tell me anymore info as to when he went to India & by what means. Thanks for any help on this :-) |

Family 'stories' are often just that. |

To go back to Mary will require a lot of Scottish research. My paternal paternal line come from Shetland. Because of the way Shetland became a part of Scotland and how it was ruled, there is a big link back to the Stewart kings. In Shetland many years ago was a gentleman who spent a lot of time researching in various record offices. Whatever he found, he presented to the relevant family in a short or long handwritten document. I have seen several of them given to my family on the island of Whalsay. I have a cousin who was given a document listing her ancestors and showing her as a 24th direct descendant of Robert The Bruce via the Stewarts and Bruces. Given that on my island everyone is related so many different ways my line is entwined with hers. The Steward surname came, I was told from one of their kinsman who was called 'Walter The Steward'. |

I have been looking on different sites but not had much luck with very little info. To view a lot of the records you have to subscribe. |

Hi, thanks for the info. I have a challenge on my hands. I am trying to find a way back to Mary Queen of Scots as I have been told from my mother that her dad, John Francis Steward had told her that we are related to Mary Queen of Scots so now I am trying to find this info out. Hoping that someone could help me. |
