My name is Andy Gibb

My great grandfather James Gibb had four daughters from his wife and one son (my grandfather) from his partner after he separated.

One of his daughters, my great aunt, Isabella Gibb married Andrew Greig Barr, the founder of AG Barr's Drinks ( of Irn Bru fame).
Sadly Andrew died after only three months of the marriage, leaving Isabella pregnant with their son.

The Barr family arranged, after Andrew's death, to maintain payments to Isabella to help her bring up her son, and Andrew's brother took over the running of the company.
This payment was to only be made while Isabella was on her own and not in any relationship with another man.

Isabella moved from Scotland to Helston in Cornwall and met one William Dick Forbes and had two children by him, Athol Stanhope Forbes in 1912 and Angus Forbes in 1918.

Isabella and William kept this relationship secret and neither Athol nor Angus births were ever registered in the UK.

I am currently carrying out research about Isabella's life and about the polar opposite lives led by her children to William.

Athol Stanhope Forbes became a decorated RAF Pilot and Squadron Leader who is refered to in many WWII publications, due to his Battle of Britain heroics, while Angus as you know drifted from job to job, woman to woman, and prison to prison.


I am in possession of a letter from Angus, written in 1959.

This thirty one page letter titled "The life story of Angus Forbes" is a jumble of facts, some true and some a little fabricated and I am working through it to determine which is which.

The story of Isabella, her Barr conection, and the story of the two brothers has become a bit of a fascination for me recently and I am collating the information obviously due to the fact these people are related to me.

I am look for any information that can help me and am prepared to share any information I already have from many sources.

URGENT I am visiting the UK from AUS for the month of June and urgently trying to find my half sister Margaret Anne Proctor/Forbes/ ??? whose birth certificate states she was born to Margaret Proctor and Angus McCallum Forbes on 15 June 1953 in Hemel Hamstead. Her mother later became Margaret Livingston but we have no idea what Margaret junior's married surname may be or how to locate her. Our father died in 1995 and is survived by 6 - 7children each raised by their respective mothers. I have already managed to locate two other half siblings. We are all anxious to find Margaret and to share photographs and information about our mutual father's side of the family with her. If anyone can help with either information or contact details please be assured the matter will be treated with utmost delicacy.
