Bryan Goodwin...My mother's Maiden name was Hempsall, and my Grandfather, John Thomas Hempsall, was born in 1873, in East Markham, Notts, where I have traced that Family line back to the 16thCentury. Because of a Family Genetic trait, which I have been told by a Medical Consultant, derives from our Viking Ancestors, it is most probable that the Family originate from the Colonists, who came over after the Great Heathen Army, Viking Invasion in 877, under Grim the Dread, who founded Grimsby. The Village of East Markham, being an old Viking word, was founded by the Vikings, as they colonised the River Trent Valley. The land was ruled under Danelaw, until the Norman Invasion of 1066. A Gennealogy Of One Name Surname book of the Hempsall's has now been published...tracing all the Hempsall and associated names which derive from the original name, dating back to the 1500's, and now scattered around the world. I was involved in its research whilst my Cousin Steve must take the credit for its publication. Copies can be obtained from him ...if you want one
