Mother's maiden name was Walker and her branch of the family were from Spennymoor, Co. Durham. My grandfather was Joseph and had a brother Charles (died in his teens) and a sister Alice. Great great grandfather was Thomas, a stonemason and builder. Great grandfather was also Thomas and married a Susannah Shelton, born in Dudley and stepdaughter of Thomas Boot who married her mother Elizabeth, a widow. They moved to the North East around 1880. Great grandfather, Thomas Walker, supposedly owned land stretching along Merrington Lane from Tudhoe to Kirk Merrington, Co. Durham which he sold around 1920. It looks as though he was part of a family business of mason/builders. Any info. about this branch of the family would be most welcome. |
