Find Ancestors

my father was Thomas Hamilton Mcknight born in Ayrshire back in the 1920's. I know he had several sisters and stepsister, brothers and stepbrothers. His mother died when he was young and is buried in Kirkcolm cemetery. His father remarried. He had a brother living in new zealand I never met. Remaining siblings all seemed to live in and around Stranrear and glasgow. I remember a one and only family vist to Stranrear when I was about 7 and meeting various relatives(1956). My father is dead now and buried in the same cemetery as his mother. As a young man he joined the army and travelled to africa and italy and in the early 1960's went to live in California. A great musiciain and skilled bagpipe player. He returned to live in Prestwick, scotland in the early 80's due to ill health and died there approx 1990 I know this all sounds vague but sadly we were not that close. I did meet up with some family members at his funeral but due to moving have lost all contact names, If there is anybody out there he could help fill in the gaps?
