I read in a library book some years ago that the name came from a village in Warwickshire 1.5m south of Southam, now spelt Ladbroke, but even on the first OS maps spelt Ladbrook. In about the 1200s when surnames were becoming more commonly used, there is evidence that it was given to immigrants from that village when they arrived in Norwich for work. Norwich was apparently the largest town in the country at that time, being a centre for the wool industry - the largest industry in the country at that time.
