My great grandfather Ralph Ingersoll left New York in the 1800s he was a civil engineer on a ship, he said from Dodds or Dobbs Ferry in New York to come to England together with his wife Mary and son Ralph aka James Ingersoll. Apparently he committed suicide through gambling debts and threw himself overboard. My great grandmother(Mary) and grandfather (Ralph) carried onto England and settled in Knightsbridge where Mary got employment as a Court Dressmaker. She remarried, and my grandfather married Ivy Hooper from Cornwall and had my father Jack Ingersoll and June Ingersoll. Is there anyone out there who can connect to this history of my Ingersoll ancestors. It could possibly be that my great grandfather who sailed from New York may have had brothers or sisters.
