Mother was born in Seremban, Malaysia. of Eurasian extraction. Married Herbert Ernest Bruce, ex RM and manager of a tin mine in upper Malaya. Married in St Pauls Cathedral Singapore. Then settled in Singapore living in Serangoon, Glasgow Road. Father took on job of Chief Inspec of Police in Singapore dealing with entry of goods taxes. Had four sons and one daughter. Eric, Melville, Bryan, Errol,and Babara. The entire family interned by the Japenese at the fall of Singapore. Interned in Changi Prison later moved to Sime Road camp, Katong. All suvived internment to return to uk. Returned to Singapore 1947 to assist Common wealth office to set up new goverment after the war. Returned in 1952 to Uk following communist up rising. Father mother and eldest Brother Eric deceased now.

Welcome to the boards Bruce. You've noticed that Kenneth posted some time ago (12 years). He has not posted since and even if still a member of GR may not be an active one.

Just for information, when the family arrived in 1945 they were Herbert E age 45, tin miner, Gwendoline, 38, Eric S, 17, Melville, 15, Barbara, 12, Brian, 8, and Errol, 4.
Their proposed address was c/o Mrs Hawtree Gourock Scotland.

On June 29th 1946, Gwendoline Alexandra, 39, last address Deal, Barbara Winifred, 13, Bryan Claude, 10, and Errol Kenneth, 5, were off to Singapore.

Kenneth Errol Bruce on 13th April 2016, added a tribute to the death obituary of Mary, widow of Melville.
