Your Matthew Alton (Born c 1798) was the brother of my 3 x gt grandmother Elizabeth Alton (born 1820), who married Joseph Vart in 1847.
I have some information on the Alton family but do not have my tree on Genes reunited, although I am a member. I'd be very happy to share information via e-mail
Unfortunately I cannot answer your question about where Mary Alton is buried.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Jackie Thorburn
