no problem Margaret ... you did in reverse what most new posters do the other way around (reply privately instead of on the board) :-)

hope you get in touch!

and if you click on Find Ancestors over on the left at the top, you will see where this post appears and all us strangers are reading it

if you want to remove any information that is more personal from your first post, just use the 'Edit' link at the top of it to delete something

just a little tip for Margaret in case she reads

I doubt there are two people in the world named Yewa Holiday

just do an internet search for her name in quotation marks

there are many, many ways of contacting her directly

also, several people have her in their trees

AnnCardiff, for info, the Charles in this case was born about 1873 ... maybe not too likely he married in 1921 or 1929 ... when he would have been in his 50s

especially since there are births to the 1921 marriage in the 1920s and 1930s

and probable births to the 1929 marriage in the 1930s

Hi Margaret, Ann's advice about trying to make contact via private message is the best advice, but after all these years it is not likely she has kept her email address here up to date

just for info, when you get search results at FreeBMD you can click on the district name to get a link to a page identifying the district, in this case for Woodstock

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/districts.pl?r=52867582:1403&d=bmd_1421750281

and then there is a link to click 'here' to get a list of parishes in the district, which in this case is here

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/woodstock.html

and Deddington was indeed in Woodstock reg dist

so you might want to check the Herbert birth cert

now will Margaret come back to her thread, or shall we send her a message to remind her ... and hope her email address is current? :-)

my best advice: to get notice of replies in threads, click 'Watch This' at the top of the thread!

Hi Margaret - you replying to a posting which is over ten years old and the poster never made another posting - you could try to make contact through this site by clicking on her name to send a message - she may still be a member but really not looking likely :-)

Yewa

Yewa Report 15 Aug 2004 20:29

My name is Yewa Holiday. I am trying to find details about my grandmother's father's family. My grandmother's name was Eleanor Mary Holiday nee Shaw. Her father's name was John Thomson Shaw. He was born in Ballynahinch, County Down in 1855 and studied medicine at Queens, Belfast. He moved to England, first staying in the Liverpool area with his elder brother, James Shaw (who was also a doctor who had studied at Queens also the Universities of Vienna, Paris and London) before moving onto the Northampton area where my grandmother was born in 1905. From about 1911, he lived at Danesbury House, Chingford, London. John Thomson Shaw was one of about 12-13 sisters and brothers which I think include the following : James (born in 1840's??), doctor Margaret Jane (born 1851) Mary (1853) Sam Simpson ? (1856) William?? Emma (1872) One of his brothers was a ship's surgeon and others may haave been engineers or church ministers. I think one of his sisters also became a doctor. I would be very grateful if anyone has any information on John Thomson's immediate family; also if anyone has any details about Eleanor Mary Shaw's brother who was about 9 years older than her and is thought to have died in the 1920s.
