Hi Lisa,I dont know if this will help you about the origin of thr Spackman name,but it is a trade name from the middle English word "spekeman" meaning "spokesman or advocate".It would have been used by a local officer to the government.It is also related to Speakman and Spekman but not to Speak,Speke or Speake,which comes from the French "espek" which is woodpecker The earliest record of this name dates back to the 12th century "Nigel Spakeman"in the couty of Essex 1195 |
