My name is Janet Neilson. I am trying to find any family living in Norway who are related to John Brustad Neilson (Nielson/Nielsen)who may have lived on the island of Hitron and who left Norway to live in Swansea (South Wales/U.K.) He was born circa 1856. His father was Zachariah and his mother was Bertha (Berta). He was a ship's carpenter in the Merchant Navy whilst living in Swansea. Whilst on board the SS Tangestan the ship was bombed in 1915 and John, my great grandfather, lost his life as did all the crew except one. John married Mary Elizabeth Powell and had eight children - Alpha, Bertha, Annie, Thomas, Gilbert, Wilfred, Brinley and Grenville. |
