My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Emson, my mother felt that this was an unusual name and wasn't sure of the origins of it. The family came from the Leigh Sinton/Alfrick area of Worcestershire, I believe that my mother's grandfather was a cabinet maker, initially prosperous, later falling on harder times. My grandmother died before I was born but I remember some great aunts & uncles-Harry, Arthur & Gladys amongst them I think-My grandmother was Elsie Mary who married Henry Herbert (Bert) Davis-they had five children who survived to adulthood Bert, Marjorie, Gladys Mary (my mother, b.1918), Jim and Jack.
