Thank you all for your comments.
Being a member of four genealogy organizations and spending days trying to find answers without result, my last resort has always been asking help from you people.
My sister's husband Peter Mace (Bernard's younger brother) has just passed away early this month and I had just started the Mace tree. She thinks Bernard and Mary T both passed away in the early 2020's and she will be contacting other Mace relative's for more family information, before we consider getting certificates.
Thank you all again. Terence.

Yes, it would appear that Bernard's younger brother married OP's sister.......well remembered AG

I agree that OP should ask known relations, or at least inform them that he is carrying out enquiries about their relation (not his)

Well done AG for remembering your long post.

On the other thread I did ask him why he wasn't in contact with the Luton children and commented "f they are family why are you not in contact - surely they can give you details if they wish you to have them."

ErikaH Report 27 Nov 2024 14:13

So, how does he come to be asking others for help regarding the woman?
Hasn't he done any research himself?

Will wait for him to return and provide some - hopefully - useful info...............

Terence seemed to know nothing about Mary, who had married his distant relative Bernard.
(His sister's brother-in-law, I seem to remember? Something like that)

He said he "couldn't confirm" the 1937 birth - but I'm not sure what that means.

He said he thought her mother might not have been married.

ErikaH Report 27 Nov 2024 14:04

I'm posting 'in the dark' as I don't know what OP's request actually said.................although it does seem that it was somewhat speculative

There were two other Langan/Clifford births in Birmingham in the 1940s - presumably Mary's brother and sister.

The brother is still living in Birmingham, per the ER.

The sister looks to have married in Birmingham, possibly twice.
She was still living in Birmingham in 2003.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Nov 2024 13:51

Well, in that case, the Birmingham birth may well be the right one!

There is no other 1937 birth of a Mary T Langan in England/Wales/Scotland.

But you need the certs, to see her father's name.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Nov 2024 13:49

Are Bernard and/or Mary still living?
If so , we need to be careful what we post about them.

In 1985 they were living in Luton, along with their son and daughter (both births registered with mmn Langan) - so "your" Mary had not been married before her marriage to Bernard.

Mary and Bernard were still living in Luton in 2006.

[ Oh, I see ErikaH has found their deaths ]

ArgyllGran Report 27 Nov 2024 13:33

To recap -
this is the birth which you think might be that of your Mary T Langan, Terence:

Births Jun 1937 (>99%)
Langan Mary T (mmn Clifford ) Birmingham 6d 818

Why do you think that?
Does that fit the age of the bride as stated on the 1959 Wandsworth marriage cert which you mentioned originally?

As mentioned on the other thread (link above) there is a marriage of a Mary T Langan in Birmingham in 1958.
On the face of it, that would seem to be a more likely marriage for the woman born in Birmingham.

To repeat the question:
do you have the 1937 birth cert, and the 1959 Wandsworth marriage cert?

What information is given about Mary on either of them? Do they give her father's name?

You said you thought her mother hadn't married.
The fact that the Birmingham child's surname is different from her mother's maiden name suggests that those parents were married.

I can't find a likely Langan/Clifford marriage, but maybe the mother had been married before.

If you read my thread above, you will see that Terence was asked questions bymyself and Argyllgran ( AG). It would save a lot of time if Terence found those answers before coming back.

Surely potential helpers need to know what he was asking - and if he actually knows anything about the woman.

I was aware that Terencehad lost his threads several times and that he was in a different time zone. So posted a run down of the answers he had lost. So it is worth reading that rather than just reposting and getting the same replies.
