As I posted some time ago, the address was unoccupied in 1939.
Post-war would probably be more logical

The registration district pre-1941 was Milton.

No birth entry for a George Read from 1931 onwards in the district

Of course, if the parents weren't married, the children should have been registered under the name(s) of the mother(s)

Yes I was looking for that birth ErikaH but found it. I hadn't progressed really any further as was concentrating on Jasper.
He was at 37 Mill St Sittingbourne in 1941 as the Sheerness Times said he was at that address when he was fined for not sending his kids to school.

Well looking either side has it covered. I have emailed the form back now so shall have to wait & see. It said it can take up to 20 days as they are very busy!

They do the search on the address not on the name.

27 MAY 1955 East Kent Gazette Mrs Joan Louisa Oughton (21) of Meads Ave, Milton, was accused of maliciously wounding William Ernest Mercer for whom she had been acting as housekeeper.

Mercer was estranged from his wife and lived with his son at 35 Mill St. Joan was estranged from her husband and family and until a few months previously, had lived next door with her parents. They moved and Mercer allowed her to live at his house.

I had looked at those Read/Castle children, but couldn't find anything to prove they were the right ones.

Probably lived too long for deaths to picked up to allow records to be opened

Celia married a Derrick Taylor in 1954. She died in 2008 in Harrogate

Betty Read MAY have married DAYNES and died in 1982, in which case, she should be on 1939……….but isn’t :-( :-(

Oh wow! What a find ladies ty so much.

I had looked at Read births on Free BMD and seen the Castle connection too but had no proof either.

But Alviegal that original mis spell in 1939 was Jasper even though yes his DOB is miles out.

I shall download the death cert for Jasper Read 1965 but his birthdate is still wrong as i have his birth cert.

Well better hand out gold stars to you all :-D :-D :-D

I shall now read & digest all the info and get it written down in an order so I can sort it all out.

This Jasper was a 1st cousin to my mums dad, my grandfather and was the last living link on that branch so hopefully no more Skinners,Haggertys and Syretts. Had enough of all of them!! And what a shower they all were too.

Every family has its problems and this branch was one of them unfortunately.

Right better crack on now sorting it all out on the family tree.

Not sure how one can reconcile 25th April 1897 with 26th March 1914

1939 image gives DOB as 25 April 1899.

Perhaps he didn't know when he was born.
Correct YOB given in 1921 - but not supplied by him at age 7.

Ive no idea either at the moment ErikaH but so much has been found since this morning.

Jaspers mothers birth year ranges from 1889-1892. She was May M Syrett. Couldn't read or write properly so its possible they didnt actually know when they were born?

I'm sorry, but I think it unrealistic that he would imagine he was FIFTEEN years at least older than he actually was

The death in 1965 is of a man born 1892...................roughly the same year as the woman May Syrett.

BTW, Florence, I trust you are aware that the Electoral Roll will tell you nothing except names ;-) ;-)
